Shakka's BIO
Shawn "Shakka"
Schulte comes from a long line of musicians on both
sides of his family. His grandfather Frank Schulte
was a singer in a 4 piece quartet singing group called
the "Bosstones" long before the Mighty Mighty
Bostones became a staple in the music industry. His
father and uncle were lounge singers for the better
part of Shakka's upbringing. On Shakka's mother's
side, his grandfather was a jazz musician and regularly
performed in shows playing the sax and clarinet. It
is no surprise that Shakka would be inclined to pursue
a music career with this background.
Shakka was first taught to play the
piano for about 3 years in his early childhood, then
later in grade school he would go on to learn to play
the sax. At around 12 years of age, Shakka was given
a Run DMC tape as a gift, which launched his desire
to learn how to produce music and scratch on the turntables.
After hearing EPMD's "You Got's to Chill"
Shakka decided to piece together various audio equipment
and built his first home recording studio.
At the age of 13, Shakka started writing
lyrics to go along with hip hop sound beds he had
been making in his bedroom studio and began to record
them while regularly entering talent show contests
at school. As the years went by, Shakka started going
to legitimate recording studios to transfer his home
recordings to professional quality recordings. By
16 he had wrote a theme song for SADD for his high
school and later that year managed to get a guest
spot on the local college radio station WSMU. Shakka
produced hip hop until he moved to Florida when he
was 21, enter the techno scene.
Shakka didn't know much about electronic
break beat until he moved to Florida and heard DJ
Icey's music. Shakka immediately connected with Iceys
sound. Shortly after moving to Florida, Shakka landed
a DJ gig at a local sports bar which would be the
place he would later meet DJ X who was also from the
north east. The two got together in 1996 and produced
their first techno track called "What we gonna
do" and pressed it on vinyl in 1997. The record
was a hit, selling over 3,000 vinyls at the time.
Shakka and DJ X went on to produce
and press records on Xquizit Records over the next
couple of years. Shakka also teamed up with Superfly
Jeff and formed the label Party Wax and continued
onto produce and publish even more records.
Next, Shakka took Paul Simon's "50
ways to leave your lover" and created a radio
dance remix. This remix was published through DJ X
and Big 3 records and went on to become a Billboard
hit. The song is ranked in Billboard magazine Hot
Club Play and Hot Radio Club Play charts.
Currently, Shakka is the President
of Rakkateer Enterprises, Inc., which
he owns with good friend Jollero (Marcin Klapyta).
